This booklet is the first artist’s book by Michelangelo Pistoletto in a limited edition of 60 copies as is stated by him in a publication of Musée d’Art Contemporain in Lyon in France: “Michelangelo Pistoletto Continenti del Tempo”, 2001.
The text is both in Italian and English, the latter being very uncommon at the time! The first line in the book may be considered as the kernel of the whole manifesto and states what it means to be an artist:
“When a man realizes that he has two lives – an abstract one for his mind and a concrete one which is also for his mind – he ends up either like a mad-man, who, out of fear, hides one of his lives and plays the other as a role, or like the artist, who has no fear and who is willing to risk both of them.”

In order to escape the usual logics Marianne Vierø experiments with abstract images and language that create a picture in the head. In this way a discharge takes place and the abstract images are suddenly differently understood. A process that is always fun to see where it may lead to. It is no wonder that Marianne Vierø at an early stage participated in OAOA / The Oceans Academy of Arts, a magazine for playing with ideas of experimental systems of looking and reading. The pseudo institution presents itself as real and plays with its own illusive image as a stage for the artists reflections. The magazine aims to de-condition and un-learn in relation to the critique of reason and common logics. No-sense, fragmentation, de-funtion and a-chronology is what is looked for.

In 2002 Klaas Kloosterboer visited the renovated men’s toilet rooms at Schiphol Airport and was confronted with newly designed urinals that depict a fly target embossed on the porcelain. It matched fully with his ideas on occupying empty spaces on canvasses he was dealing with as a painter. Obviously this sight was a good reason to picture it for a photo work that he used for the cover of this publication.

Dutch artist Otto Egberts started his career in the 1980’s. His subject is the individual that stands alone in an enstranged sub-realism expressed through painting, drawing and installations. In 2012 he started an in Dutch written blog criticizing various elites in society and predicting the downfall of the Occident.
In “Verspreide Koppen” each page on the right depicts a head dramatically tormented by strange objects and geometrical forms.
